Brookings County Detention Center
ATTENTION
As a precautionary measure, based on CDC recommendations of social distancing, the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office has made the decision to close its office to the public. The intention of this closure is precautionary out of consideration for the safety and health of our staff, visitors, and inmates.
The closure will take effect Wednesday, March 18th at 12:00 Noon CST and will remain in effect until further notice.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to operate and provide services to the community. Citizens are being asked to contact our office via phone, email, and by utilizing online services and forms. Please see the “forms” tab for Concealed Weapons Permit applications, and Notice to Quit and Vacate paperwork.
Please utilize the lockbox in our entry way for dropping off inmate money, 24/7 fees, paying jail costs and dropping off completed Concealed Weapons Permit applications. To arrange property pickup or drop off, please contact the Detention Center.
We are doing everything we can to ensure the safety of our inmates, staff and visitors.

Inmate Population
The Brookings County Detention Center provides a secure holding facility for persons legally confined in Brookings County, including pre-trial, pre-sentence, and sentenced adult male and female offenders. The Brookings County Detention Center houses inmates of all security levels. The Brookings County Detention Center is a 54 bed facility that has a daily average population of 35.

For a detained friend or relative in the Brookings County Detention Center dial 605-305-4530. Leave your name, inmate name, call back telephone number and brief message. Inmates have access to messages during normal phone access time periods.
