4-H
“To Make the Best Better” is the motto for 4-H across the nation and 4-H in Brookings County is no different. Brookings County 4-H offers programming for youth ages 5-18. Youth ages 5 – 7 are welcome to participate in Cloverbud activities; providing a sneak peek to the traditional 4-H program though hands-on activities and lessons highlighting 4-H project areas. The traditional 4-H program is for youth ages 8 (by January 1 of the current year) to 18. There are nine 4-H clubs located throughout the county, each offering unique opportunities, activities and experiences, as well as special interest clubs including 4-H Shooting Sports and Dog.
The 4-H calendar runs from October 1 – September 30 of each year. Enrollment can be completed online at the SDSU Extension website. Monthly activities are highlighted in our ‘Brookings County 4-H Times’ newsletter. Culminating events take place in June, July and August which showcase the achievements of 4-H members through their participation in the Horse Show, Dog Show, Achievement Days and several Youth in Action contests.
