Theft

Reported: Monday, 07/09/18 @ 0920
Location: 460th Ave. ¼ S. of 206th St.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft of an electric fencer and deep cycle battery from a fence line at the above location. It was found that the 30 mile Gallagher Electric Fencer and Deep Cycle Interstate Battery were stolen sometime between Wednesday, 07/04/18 at 0800 to Friday, 07/06/18 at 0800. The values of the Fencer and Battery was estimated at $920.00. Theft

Reported: Friday, 07/06/18 @ 1825
Location: 200 Blk W. 5th St. (White, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a stolen antique iron drag. The theft happened sometime within the last two weeks. It is described as being 5 feet by 5 feet with iron teeth and is distinguishable as the brackets that hold the chain in place had broken and were replaced with yellow plastic that stands out. The value of the drag is unknown. . Theft

Location: 500 Blk of Sunset RD (Lake Campbell, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of tool boxes and their contents stolen from the cargo area of a pickup that was parked in the driveway of a residence at the above location. The tool box and their contents are valued at $120.00. The theft occurred sometime between Tuesday, 07/03/18 at 2100 to when it was noticed on Wednesday, 07/04/18 at 0715. Minor Injury accident.

Reported: Sunday, 06/24/18 @ 1313
Location: 201st St. and 459th Ave.

Driver: Kevin Harms Age: 54
Brookings, SD

Injured Passenger: Lisa Harms Age: 53
Brookings, SD

Vehicle: 2017 Harley Davidson Motorcycle Damage: $5,000.00

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motorcycle collided with a deer at the above location. It was found that Kevin Harms was traveling northbound on 459th Ave. north of 201st St. when a deer entered the roadway. The motorcycle collided with the deer. The passenger 53 year old Lisa Harms was thrown from the motorcycle. Both the driver and passenger were wearing helmets and eye protection. The driver was not injured. Bruce fire and rescue, and the Brookings Ambulance responded to the accident. Lisa Harms was transported by private party to the Brookings Hospital to be seen for unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation by the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Lost Property

Reported: Saturday, 06/23/18 @ 1845
Location: South of Hwy 14 on 469th Ave. (Rural Brookings, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a black Advanced Armament 7.62-SDN-6 suppressor that was accidently left on the bed rail of a truck and was now missing. The owner of the Suppressor advised that he was shooting and had taken the Suppressor off of his weapon and set it on the bed rail of his truck. He left the residence forgetting that he had left it on the bed rail of the truck and it fell off somewhere. The Suppressor is believed to be lost and not stolen. Structure Fire

Location: 484th Ave. near 199th St. Hendricks, MN
Reported: 6/19/18 @ 10:35p.m.

On the above date and time the Brookings County sheriff’s Office, Hendricks Fire Dept. and White Fire Dept. responded to a structure fire at the above location. Upon arrival the garage area of the home was fully engulfed and quickly spread to the rest of the home. Due to the size of the fire mutual aid was requested in which Aurora, Elkton, Bruce, Sinai, Volga, and Brookings Fire Departments all responded to help put out the fire. All occupants of the home were able to evacuate safely. The home was a complete loss as well as several vehicles, a boat, skid steer, and riding lawn mower. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Other assisting agencies were the White Ambulance and Hendricks Ambulance.

Hit & Run

Location: 212th St. and 488th Ave. (Minnesota/South Dakota State Line)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a Hit & Run that occurred at the above location. It was found that sometime on Saturday, 06/02/18 a vehicle was traveling west on 212th St. and entered the north ditch where it struck a sign owned by the Brookings County Hwy Dept. Blue paint transfer was left on the sign. The cost to replace the sign is $100.00. Injury accident

Reported: Tuesday, 05/29/18 at 0533

Location: I29 Southbound near MM 144
Driver: Christian Jager Age: 20
Alexandria, SD
Vehicle: 2006 Chevy Silverado Damage: Total Loss

On the above date and time the Brookings Fire Department, Brookings Ambulance and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle rollover accident on I-29 @ MM144. It was found that a 2006 Chevy Silverado driven by 20 year old Christian Jager was traveling southbound on I-29 when it entered the median then over corrected entering the west road ditch where the vehicle rolled over onto its roof. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The driver was transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brooking Ambulance where he was later transferred to a Sioux Falls Hospital with unknown injuries. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor in the accident. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office and charges from the accident are pending.

Vehicle fire

Reported: Monday, 05/28/18 at 1330
Location: Near 458th Ave. and 218th St.

On the above date and time the Sinai Fire Dept., and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a vehicle fire at the above location. It was found that the vehicle had not been ran for approx. 2 months and was driven from a hay field to the above location. When the driver parked the vehicle he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment. The entire vehicle, which was a 1991 Ford F250 is a total loss. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Unoccupied structure fire.

Reported: Sunday, 05/27/18 at 1451.
Location: Near 472nd Ave. and 198th St. (Rural Bruce, SD)

On the above date and time the Bruce Fire Dept., Brookings Fire Dept., Aurora Fire Dept., Volga Fire Dept., White Fire Dept., Estelline Fire Dept., Brookings Ambulance, and the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a structure fire at an abandoned acreage. It was found that the unoccupied home, and 5 other outbuildings had caught on fire. Lost in the fire were several old antiques inside of the home, two old scrap metal vehicles, and misc. tools. A skid steer was also damaged but was still functional. The value of the loss is unknown at this time. The cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Fire

Reported: Saturday, 05/26/18 at 1650
Location: Near 481st Ave. and 216th St. (Rural Elkton, SD)

On the above date and time the Elkton Fire Dept., Aurora Fire Dept., Elkton Ambulance, and Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to several corn stalk bales and a skid steer that had caught on fire. It was found that the fire originated from the skid steer and was near the corn stalk bales. The wind contributed to the fire spreading quickly amongst the bales. The skid steer and bales were a complete loss. The total loss was $38,570.00. The cause of the fire in the skid steer is believed to be electrical in nature. The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Burglary

Reported: Monday, 05/21/18 @ 1425
Location: Near 219th St. and 473rd Ave. (Rural Brookings, SD)

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office took a report of a burglary to an abandoned acreage located near the above location. It was found that a suspect or suspects forced their way into the building through the front door. The suspect or suspects stole 2 Vexlar fish finders, a Black & Decker 14.4v cordless drill set, a Black & Decker 18v cordless drill set, a gas powered ice auger with dirt bit, a Stihl hedge trimmer, and a Skill chop saw. The items stolen are valued at $2,240.00. The damage to the door is unknown at this time. The burglary occurred sometime between April 15th, 2018 to when it was noticed on May 21st, 2018. Burglary

Reported: 5-18-18 @ 0322hrs
Location: 300 block of highway 14 in Volga

On the above date and time Deputies responded to an alarm at a business on the 300 Blk of Hwy 14 in Volga, SD. Upon arrival it was found that the business had been broken into through a door on the east side of the building, which had been taken off of its hinges. One video lottery machine had been broken into and an undisclosed amount of cash was stolen. The other video lottery machines, and an ATM were tampered with but nothing was taken. The Burglary is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office. Injury accident

Reported: 5-16-18 at 0143 hours
Location: I-29 at the 134 mile post
Driver: Jessica Boyles Age: 25
Brookings, SD
Vehicle: 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix Damage: Total Loss.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one vehicle injury accident. It was found that 25 year old Jessica Boyles was traveling northbound on I29 near MM 134 when she lost control of the vehicle and struck multiple linear posts, a metal guardrail, metal cables, and a bridge. Jessica was transported to the Brookings Hospital by the Brookings Ambulance where she was treated for unknown injuries. Alcohol was found to be a contributing factor and she was arrested for DUI 1st, reckless driving, no valid DL, a seatbelt violation and active warrants. The damage to the bridge is unknown at this time. The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office, SDSU Police, Brookings Police, Brookings Fire Department and the Brookings Ambulance all responded to the accident. The accident is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office.

Hit and Run

Reported: Wednesday, 05/09/18 @ 0915
Location: Bridge between 479th Ave. & 480th Ave. on 211th St.

On the above date and time the Brookings County Sheriff’s Office was called to the above location to take a report of a vehicle that had struck the bridge in that location, causing damage to the bridge. It was found that an unknown vehicle was traveling eastbound when it struck the southwest corner of the bridge. The vehicle continued eastbound and struck the northeast corner of the bridge as well. The vehicle left the scene of the accident. The suspect vehicle is believed to be black in color and should have noticeable damage to the front bumper and fender. The date and time of the accident is unknown. The cost to repair the damage is unknown at this time.
